BMT Tax Depreciation are still open, operating and completing site inspections. Our staff are operating out of offices, home offices and remotely conducting inspections.
BMT have always had the position that sending our specialist employees to complete a detailed site inspection is essential to achieve the highest possible deductions while maintaining full ATO compliance. Having evidence to support potentially thousands of dollars in deductions protects our clients and partner companies now and for many years into the future.
This position is endorsed by the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors. Click here to read more.
Safety measures we have put in place
We are explaining the safety steps that we are taking to the occupants of every home and premises we inspect. Once this is clear we are finding that property occupants are working with us to ensure we are operating in the safest possible environment.
All occupants are asked:
- To open all doors and turn on lights during the inspection, so that the site inspector doesn’t need to touch anything
- About any symptoms and overseas travel prior to the inspection
Our site inspectors are:
- Carrying safety equipment including masks, gloves and hand sanitiser
- Adhering to social distancing rules
- Removing their shoes where possible
We also assure you that our site inspectors have not travelled overseas in the past fourteen days.
Any BMT staff member displaying flu like symptoms will be directed to seek medical advice and follow Government regulations which may include self-isolating for fourteen days.
Some remote areas are harder to get to due to travel restrictions and lack of flights. In these areas there will be some delay in completing the inspection. Both landlords and tenants are being updated on progress in these areas. Please bear with us in these difficult times.
The quality of our depreciation schedules and achieving the maximum cash return is more important than a quick turnaround time, however if you do need your schedule urgently please let us know.
Read our blog for more information on our site inspections.
A message to our Victorian customers
The health, safety and wellbeing of you, your tenants and our staff is our highest priority.
Due to the developing situation in Victoria, we have temporarily put our Victorian site inspections on hold. This means you may experience delays in the completion of your tax depreciation schedule.
A site inspection is still an essential step to completing a tax depreciation schedule. This is supported by both the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and the National Tax and Accountants’ Association.
In most scenarios, when a site inspection isn’t completed deductions are missed, costly errors are made, and you can be at risk should you need to substantiate claims with the ATO.
As advice from the government changes and it’s safe to do so, BMT will conduct site inspections on every applicable Victorian property as a priority. We ask you to please be patient with us at this time, this will help us ensure we can complete your schedule safely and at the highest standard.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 1300 728 726.
Our focus over the coming months will be the health, safety and wellbeing of our customers and staff. If the COVID-19 situation and related government orders change we will adjust our operations immediately.
