About Us

History and Growth

BMT is managed by three directors namely Brendan Farrugia, Tom Plenty and Bradley Beer, providing an Australia wide service. BMT has offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Newcastle, Adelaide, Perth, Gold Coast, Cairns and Canberra.

BMT commenced business in 1997 with offices in Sydney and Newcastle. The demand from investors in Victoria and Queensland lead to the opening of offices in each capital city. In recent years the amount of return clients investing in property throughout Australia has lead to further offices opening in Adelaide, Canberra and Perth. In recent times, explosive growth in the Queensland property market has seen BMT open two additional offices – in Cairns and Southport.

Staff numbers have grown accordingly, with over 90 full time staff now employed throughout Australia. BMT believe the repeat business from property investors, real estate agents, accountants and the like is testament to the product and service delivered. After more than 12 years in the industry, BMT have exceeded all expectations of growth, customer service and reporting standards.

We believe our dramatic growth is the best demonstration of our commitment to our clients and alliances, as we have grown based on repeat business and a solid referral base. No mergers, acquisitions or franchising of the business have helped ensure that the commitment to our clients and referrals has remained our primary focus.

In 2008, BMT & ASSOC divided into 2 entities – BMT & ASSOC and BMT Tax Depreciation. This was done so that BMT could better service our clients' needs on both sides of the business.

In 2010 the growing need for depreciation specialists saw BMT Tax Depreciation open new offices in Darwin and Hobart. The result of this was BMT can now offer services to every Australian state and territory and ensuring every Australian investor can maximise their deductions.

Directors

Tom Plenty B. Con. Mgt (Hons1), MRICS, AAIQS

Tom

Tom has over 13 years experience in the building and construction industry. A founding Director of BMT & ASSOC, he has been involved in many and varied projects. Tom's experience has included construction estimating, cost planning, tax depreciation, cost management and project management. Tom is actively involved in client projects and leads the cost planning team.

Tom completed a four year full time degree studying Construction Management and Quantity Surveying obtaining a Bachelor of Construction Management at Honours level. After obtaining his degree, Tom lectured at a tertiary level, combining an up to date industry viewpoint within a thorough theoretical framework for students. He is also responsible for various published papers within the construction industry.

Tom, along with Brendan Farrugia, formed and incorporated BMT & ASSOC Pty Ltd Quantity Surveyors in 1997. Tom is still a controlling director of this company and is focused on providing clients with value adding solutions for all property depreciation and construction cost consultancy services offered by BMT & ASSOC.

Brendan Farrugia B. Con. Mgt (Hons), MRICS, AAIQS, ICECA

Brendan

Brendan has over 13 years part time experience plus 15 years full time professional experience in the construction and development industry. Brendan has extensive site experience being involved with hundreds of projects during his youth.

Brendan completed a four year full time degree studying Construction Management and Quantity Surveying obtaining a Bachelor of Construction Management at Honours level. After obtaining his degree, Brendan lectured for several years at a tertiary level to Construction Management and Quantity Surveying students on topics such as Quantity Surveying, Facilities Management, Procurement Systems and Project Management.

Brendan, along with Tom Plenty, formed and incorporated BMT in 1997. Brendan is still a controlling director of this company and is involved in all facets of BMT, including business development and operations management of the company.

Bradley Beer B. Con. Mgt

Brad

Brad has over 12 years experience in the building and construction industry. He commenced employment with BMT in 1998, becoming a Director of the company in 2002. Brad’s involvement in a wide variety of projects enables him to provide clients with specialist experience in the areas of tax depreciation, project management, construction estimating and cost planning.

Brad has been responsible for much of BMT's published literature, including our newsletter, Maverick. Brad is also actively involved in new business development as a regular keynote speaker and presenter of BMT services at conferences and exhibitions.

Brad has experience across the residential, commercial and industrial property spectrum, in both small and large scale projects ranging from $1million-$100million.

Brad's combined experience and enthusiasm ensures that clients are provided with value-adding solutions for their projects.
