As Treasurer Wayne Swan delivers his sixth Federal Budget tonight, it is expected the new Budget will include several measures to reduce spending.
Despite any spending reductions which may occur, calls from both the building industry and welfare groups have made a plea to the Government to make demand for housing a priority.
In many states, there is currently an undersupply of houses. The Real Estate Institute of NSW President, Christian Payne, said stimulus for the housing sector by the Federal Government would be warmly welcomed.
Demand for affordable rental properties, particularly for lower income Australians, is also a continuing priority.
Many commentators agree, Federal Government grants on new homes and home and land release programs would help to stimulate housing activity and have a positive affect on the broader economy.
The 2013 Budget papers will be released tonight at 7.30pm.
