We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit – Aristotle
It’s always a pleasure to have one of Australia’s real estate marketing thought leaders come to train our teams at BMT and today was another extraordinary day of learning.
After all that has been said the only thing left to do is to get it done, and the only way to get it done, is to make a habit of doing it.
Sports teams do it; they train and practice what they want to do on game day. They make it a habit, a ritual to train with intensity in order to have the best possible chance for success. This thinking is succinctly summarised in a quote Tom uses “sweat at training, so you don’t bleed in battle.”
At the end of the training session Tom challenged the team to take on 3 or 4 habit changes for 30 days straight. The first 10 days will be tough, the second 10 days will feel strange, but after 30 days you will have created for yourself new rituals that will take your life to a new level, a world class level.
If you don’t have 3 new habits you want to practice, you can always work on the following 3 habits recommended by Tom. Habits that will give you more energy, have you talking to more people, give you more clarity, more time in the day, more opportunities to do self training in the morning because you’re up at 5 o’clock. You’ll be able to read more books and the hand that picks up a book is never the same hand that puts it down.
With these 3 rituals alone your life can change exponentially, so why wait until the New Year to begin? Why not finish 2014 strongly which ultimately means you start 2015 even stronger?
If sports teams are going into pre-season training right now, why shouldn’t you? As previously mentioned the teams that prepare the best place themselves in the best possible position to succeed. While others are going into holiday mode, why not go into pre-season mode for 2015 and begin to ritualise to actualise which will get you pumped for the New Year’s opportunities and challenges
Tom’s 3 Life Changing Habits
1. Join the 5am Club
Get up a 5am in the morning which will allow you to do some meditation, planning, training or some quiet time to get you ready and prepared to have a world class day. It will give you more energy, but you might have to change your sleep cycle which means getting into bed by 10pm. Getting up early is the secret to a lot of successful people. An old Chinese proverb says “no one who can rise before dawn 360 days a year fails to make his family rich.”
2. Exercise Daily
Get yourself corporate fit. Corporate fit is being so fit that you go from the heights of exhilaration to the depths of depression but because you’ve got so much energy you can handle anything. This is coming from a man who this year to date has been on 240 flights, done 500 auctions, 170 training sessions, works for News Limited, runs an online business and holds a regular Sky News program and he is not at all tired. Why? Because he invests 2 hours a day for exercise and fitness. How your day starts generally sets up what the rest of your day will look like. Exercise and eat well because you need as much energy at 8am in the morning as you do at 7pm in the evening.
3. Talk to 10 people before 10am
Whether it is a staff member, a client a potential customer, a vendor or buyer, that’s 50 people in a week 200 people in a month and 2,000 people in a year, now that’s networking and can you imagine the opportunities that come from those 2,000 conversations all before 10am and you still have the rest of the day.
Tom came and spoke to our team and as a result we are really energised to take up any challenges 2015 throws our way. We want to work hard to provide our clients with a world class, state of the art depreciation schedule and service that will blow them away, and it all starts with the little habits we practice as individuals and as a business.
So ritualise to actualise.
