Hi Wayne,

Thanks for your comment.

The incentives are only available for eligible businesses. If you own a property as a landlord but are not running a business from the property or a business of leasing property, you won’t be able to claim the incentives. Provided all other eligibility requirements are met, if you are running a business, you will be able to claim each of the solar panel assets. You can find more information here: https://treasury.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-03/Fact_sheet-Support_for_business_investment.pdf

Thanks,

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your comment.

Yes, that’s correct. The incentives are only available for eligible businesses with an aggregated turnover of up to $500 million. The asset examples in the article relate to businesses operating and owning a building such as an office, motel or farm. You can find more information here: https://treasury.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-03/Fact_sheet-Support_for_business_investment.pdf

A commercial property owner is intending to install 4 separate solar panel units (for each of 4 tenancies). Owning the property does not constitute the running of a business (ie not SBE) so can we be sure the owner is eligible to claim under the Stimulus Package? If the answer is yes, does BMT think each unit would qualify for the immediate write-off deduction (<$150k)?

Thanks guys, good information. Presumably only commercial property owners who are conducting a business on the commercial property - not simply acting as a landlord - will be eligible for these measures, given they are targeted at business owners, not landlords? Unless you are running a business of leasing commercial property (which would entail more than just a single property) presumably these deductions aren't available?
